I received an e-mail from World Vision a few days ago. They appeal to people to pay attention to the global food crisis, and to show kindness for hungry people. Below is the original e-mail:

Global Food Crisis – A Silent Tsunami

Dear Partner,

No doubt the recent spiraling food prices have affected every one of us in one way or another. People from Hong Kong to mainland China and Mongolia to Lesotho are finding ways to cope. Throughout the world impoverished communities are the first to suffer and the children of such communities are often the hardest hit.

It is heartbreaking to see how skyrocketing food prices have deprived many children of their rights to basic health and nutrition as well as education.

A ‘silent tsunami’ of hunger is now threatening millions of people on every continent. World Vision is helping the poorest of the poor in 37 countries currently under threat of the global food crisis. To learn more about the crisis and how World Vision is responding, please browse our webpage.

The need is massive. Please forward the information to your friends so that more people can participate by supporting World Vision’s hunger relief projects in these poor countries. You could also give hope and long-term support to the affected children by sponsoring them.

Thank you for your support during times of need.

Yours truly,
Kevin Chiu
Chief Executive Officer
World Vision Hong Kong
